The purpose of this website and blog is to follow Russell and Lucille Lee in their journey through World War II through letters written between them. Russell and Lucille were a young couple with a two year old son when Russell was drafted to serve in World War II. He served from February 1944 to December 1945. It was a scary two years for them, especially when Lucille received a telegram explaining that Russell had been wounded. The emotions of being separated, and all that came with it, are evident in the letters. Also included in the letters, and discussed from their perspective, are bits of major historical events, such as D-Day, Hitler's suicide, the death of FDR, and the atomic bomb. Following along as the letters are posted is encouraged to get a sense of what this young couple was feeling as their time apart waned on.
You can find more about Russell and Lucille and their lives leading up to the war in the "About" section of this website.
